27 Things You Didn’t Know About India

India is fast becoming my favourite country, it really is unlike any other, but with the good comes the bad, and it’s this mix that makes India a conundrum inside a riddle covered in a mystery… wrapped in pancetta. Anyway here are 27 things I learned during my month in India…

  1. The wifi here is a myth. It just doesn’t work. End of story… which is so annoying for a blogger, I have so many stories to tell and pictures to share!
  2. On that note, when you do get wifi (rarely) the only website or app that seems to work is Whatsapp. I have no idea why but I love love love all the web developers at Whatsapp for making contact with my fam possible.
  3. India doesn’t smell. I arrived expecting gutter stench as so many people warned me that I’d be overwhelmed by a disgusting aroma. I was actually surprised that India smells, for the most part, amazing. A heady scent of spices, marigolds and masala chai.

    Some hotels are like palaces!

  4. Masala Chai. HEAVEN! I drank at least a cup a day and it’s the most wonderful drink. Don’t pay more than 10IR.
  5. The food in India is soooooooo soooooooo soooooooo f*cking good. I would come back for that alone. Street food in particular.
  6. Except the sweets, they’re just way too sweet and not good at all. But English chocolate is widely available so it ain’t a ting.
  7. I was with a group of 18 people and not one got the dreaded Delhi Belly. I ate a roti from a street vendor with the filthiest hands without even thinking, because I was so hungry, and I was fine. If anything I gained weight because I was eating so much. I mean a fat samosa is 10IR!

    Best. Samosa. Ever.

  8. You’ll be eating mainly vegetarian dishes in India which feels great so just accept it – you can find meat in more touristy restaurants but you’ll be paying a premium for it.
  9. The people in India are incredibly friendly and honest – I made friends with waiters (Hi Raju), tuk tuk drivers and market traders who all just wanted to make sure that I had the best time possible while in their hometown.
  10. The beggars are quite intense, gorgeous but filthy children literally throw themselves at your feet. It’s hard but you shouldn’t give them any money, as more often than not they’re part of an organised crime syndicate, and any money or unopened food they get goes straight into the hands of the men that kidnapped them. Give them opened food if you really feel for them.

The Jaisalmer Lake – I highly recommend it!

  11. In India, the only way to travel is via tuk tuk and unlike a black London cab you’ll never have to wait for one – they’re everywhere. After your 20th tuk tuk ride you’ll be so used to traveling in them that even the lack of safety belts and sides won’t deter you from flagging down the next one.
  12. You can get a pretty nice hotel in India for very little money but they do have some weird little idiosyncrasies that I find funny like; the toiletries are always used or repackaged; the toilet paper comes in quarter rolls that are sellotaped and wrapped; there will always be 145 light switches in you room and you won’t know what they’re for… despite all these switches your bedside lamp will sadly remain off.
  13. Always always always carry a scarf, handy for the cold nights and for the many temples you’ll be visiting.
  14. If you need drugs (the legal kind) then head to one of the many, many pharmacies on any Indian street. I caught a plane cold and felt pretty ill so headed to the pharmacy and got some antibiotics, paracetamol and cough drops all for about 70p and no questions asked. You can also get Valium and other strong sleeping tablets if that’s your bag.

There are ‘swastikas’ everywhere, but it’s a Hindu symbol representing reincarnation.

  15. Kingfisher in 660ml bottles is the beer of choice in India and it’s great. Also very cheap. Avoid imported beers as they cost double or even triple the price of a domestic brew.
  16. One thing about India that’s really hard to get used to is the litter, in the UK if you get caught littering not only do you get looked upon as worse than pond scum but you also get an £80 fine. Litterbugs are not looked upon kindly in most of the western world but in India it’s the norm. There is trash everywhere! And absolutely no bins to be seen so if you have rubbish then you kinda have to throw it on the floor which just feels wrong.
  17. THERE ARE COWS EVERYWHERE. LOTS OF THEM. IT HAS TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED. Also they’re super tame and cute.image
  18. India is cheap and 1000 rupees (£10) can last days. If you’re feeling frugal you can eat like a king for 50IR, equally the more touristy restaurants might charge 500IR for a meal. Regardless you’ll have so many rupee notes you won’t know what to do with them, but always shop around for a better price, even if you feel rich.
  19. I never thought I’d get bored of palaces but India is opulent AF. Dispel any thoughts of it being a poor country, there’s bling everywhere.
  20. When shopping always haggle because the western price can be 10x the local price and who likes getting ripped off? My mate bought some bangles for 500IR then I bought the same ones for 200IR because I haggled. Just decide what you want to pay and you’ll normally get that price.

    The Rat Temple, Bikaner

  21. India is a super spiritual country whether you’re visiting a Hinu, Sikh or Muslim place of worship, soak it up and enjoy learning about these fascinating religions.
  22. On that note the free temple food that gets given out 3 times a day at Sikh temples is bloody delicious but be sure to leave a donation or offer to help in the kitchen.
  23. The food isn’t spicy! Despite what people may tell you, it’s pretty mild.
  24. I think the water is fine… after accidentally drinking it several times and living to tell the tale. Don’t be too scared if you swallow a little when brushing your teeth.
  25. While the water is fine you won’t always have a hot shower which for westerners can be difficult to deal with, especially because India is filthy and dusty and you’ll probably need a hot shower quite desperately some days.
  26. People love it if you speak Hindi, even a simple ‘Namaste’ or ‘Nahin’ instantly warms them to you. Great tool for haggling.
  27. India is anything but predictable, the people are loud, crazy, friendly and did I mention crazy?? The country is loud, colourful, logic defying and most of all beautiful.Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

Workout of The Month: 1Rebel Upper Body Reshape

Now that I’ve joined the amazing Classpass (check out my review here) – the workout subscription service or ‘Netflix for fitness’ as I like to call it – I check out an awful lot of new classes around London, so as my raison d’être is to share knowledge, or anything, with as many people as possible I thought I’d review, in-depth, a class each month to help you on your fitness journey.

First up is one of my absolute favourites, 1Rebel’s Upper Body Reshape class…

25346_1rebel_190115_hires_1102

Overview

1Rebel is a boutique chain of gyms, well there are two – both in the city – owned by the son of the founder of Fitness First. The first gym dynasty? It doesn’t have memberships; you simply pay by session or you can buy a block. Or you can get three sessions per month on Classpass like me. Upper body Reshape is a HIIT-type class which mixes treadmill work and weights, all to a pumping soundtrack and low, moody lighting.

The workout

You’re given a number when you check in and that is your station for the session. You either start on the treadmills or the benches, and switch every few minutes. So you might do 8 minutes of running, 8 minutes of tricep dips and bicep curls then 5 minutes of hill runs and 5 minutes of weights. The class is 45 minutes but it goes so fast because there is no downtime at all. You have only a few seconds to switch from the treadmill to the benches and vice versa and then you’re off again. It’s a class where you do have to push yourself a bit, either by running that bit faster, doing more reps or lifting heavier weights, but if you did the bare minimum it would still be an excellent workout.

The instructor

I have only had classes with Danny so far and he’s great, sometimes I just zone out in class because I’m in so much pain or struggling and his motivational pep-talks keep me going. His favourite is “what do we do when it starts to burn? We give a little more!”. Some people might find this macho #NoPainNoGain mentality counterproductive but I honestly need a firm hand or I slack off.

The facilities

This is probably why I like 1Rebel so much, the gym is awesome. There’s a juice and smoothie bar where you can pre-order your post-workout shake. Free towels (which are really soft), a fridge full of chilled, yes chilled, towels to cool you down after your session. Free spacious lockers, beautiful changing rooms with Hollywood mirrors, top-of-the-range hairdryers and GHD hair straighteners and an array of beauty products. Even the lighting is flattering. In the studios all the equipment is brand new and in great nick.

23_luxury_boutique_gym_1rebel_by_studio_c102_london_yatzer

Points to note

  • This isn’t a class for the faint-hearted or the unfit, so I would not recommend you trying this as your first gym class. You need at least a basic base level of fitness – it’s really intense.
  • Watch out for the lockers, they are tricky buggers and I’m yet to figure out the knack.
  • Pack light; you can buy water here. They supply hairspray, hairbands, deodorant, face wipes, moisturiser, towels… you’re basically set.

Verdict

I love this class as I do it with my friend Soph so it’s our get-together time and it’s much healthier than a drink. I find it challenging but the music is often a mix of UK garage, grime, hip hop and dance so ultimately it makes it a fun workout.

What’s happening in the month of September, according to me anyway…

The iTunes Festival Turns 10

Newly rebranded as the Apple Music festival, this gigantic music-fest touches down in Camden Town once again this month. And since it’s the 10th anniversary Apple have pulled out all the stops because – stop the press – BRITNEY IS PLAYING! Yes, that’s the one and only legendary Ms. Spears playing in the little old Roundhouse, crazy. There’s also gigs from Michael Buble, Elton John and the amazing Chance The Rapper.

Dr. Martens Lighten Up

Full disclosure, I am now an employee of Dr. Martens – I’m their new brand copywriter – but I’m nothing if not honest. So believe me when I say that their new DM’s Lite boots are a wardrobe essential. They have all the style of the classic Dr. Martens 1460 boot but they’re only a third of the weight, plus they feel like you’re wearing a sneaker. They’re so comfortable that I placed an order seconds after trying them on. Here’s something I wrote for the campaign; ‘Lightweight shoe – heavyweight style’ which about sums it up.

The Rudest Film Ever

maxresdefault

If you go to the cinema this month then make sure you’re going to see Sausage Party, the animated movie by Seth Rogan set in a supermarket. At first glance, on paper, the film doesn’t sound that breaking, but it’s just so funny. It’s basically Disney Pixar but for adults and it is extremely X-rated – think a Jewish bagel and a Palestinian wrap at war, a lesbian taco and a Sausage literally trying to get his end away in a hot bun. The final scene will blow your mind…

I for one was devvoed when Conde Nast’s best digital offering Style.com closed down last year, their street style and Tommy Ton show coverage was just the best. Well it’s back as an ecommerce store that promises ‘shopping curated by the editors’. There have been some negative reviews of the new platform but personally I think it’s a really good site that seamlessly mixes content and commerce. Anyway check it out for yourself.

Okay so right now we’re in an ungodly heatwave (it’s 30 degrees in London, in September) but this is the time of year when we buy our winter coats. That’s literally the best thing about September, to me anyway. This year I’m lusting after a puffa jacket because after this Indian summer I predict an Antarctic winter. I love this FILA one which gives a nod to 90s hip hop style, ASOS have loads of great styles and this Topshop one is a real gem.

What is a Copywriter? And How To Be a Good One

I recently started a new job and I was talking to my mum about how happy I am to have found a career I’m good at and more importantly, that I love. Then we got to talking about what I wanted to do at school – it varied weekly (whale watcher, doctor, lawyer, Jennifer Lopez) – and how I didn’t even know my chosen career path existed back then!

img_1612

All throughout my childhood and teenage years I was drawn to fashion, I loved cutting images out of Vogue, drawing clothes, creating my own magazines and learning designer’s name off by heart. I was under the illusion that the only ‘fashion career’ was to design clothes – which I wasn’t convinced I could do. My mother was even less convinced, I remember her dissuading me from studying fashion design at university so I studied classics instead.

Nowadays it is a bit easier – the internet happened – information is boundless and very easily accessible. Here is where I admit that I’m as old as the hills and while I was at school the internet had three pages. I’m not kidding, there was Teenchat, BBC news and another one I can’t remember. Encarta was my Wikipedia.

img_1662

Still, I can’t help thinking I wish I had some careers advice when I was a bit younger, after university I still had no clue what I wanted to do and held down a succession of dead-end jobs, becoming increasingly frustrated. I knew I wanted to do ‘something’ in fashion. But I wasn’t sure what and more importantly how.

That’s actually how I started blogging, I loved writing and fashion and I had a lot of ideas so I thought it would be a good idea to get them down somewhere. That was the best career decision I’ve ever made.

Sorry, you do what now?

I’m now a copywriter, working in fashion, and I’ve grown used to people not understanding what I mean when I say that. Well, copywriting is the craft of persuasive writing. So unlike poets and novelists, it’s writing but for a commercial purpose. I write to sell sh*t (and hopefully amuse and inspire along the way).

What I am not is:

  • A copyright lawyer
  • A journalist
  • Someone who copies writing

Advertising Copywriters

You may have seen the TV show Mad Men, well that centres around an ad agency full of copywriters – a lot of copywriters work in advertising, coming up with clever tag lines and snappy ad copy.

What I do…

I don’t work in advertising, theres an ever-growing number of copywriters who work in-house for businesses as these days content is king.

If you think about all your favourite brands, how do they communicate with you? Through their website, emails, store signs, catalogues – all these things require words, and they’re created by a copywriter. Me in some cases.

A copywriter is tasked with creating a ‘tone of voice’ for a brand – the brand’s personality if you will. To do this you have to know your customer, your brand’s history and values and also inject a little of yourself into your work.

Fashion Copywriting

Fashion copywriting is quite specialised like medical copywriting or technical copywriting (there are lots of different types). You need to know about fashion, for one thing, if you’re writing product descriptions you need to know about different fabrics and their properties, sizing and fit.

How to become a fashion copywriter

Bloggers do it better

I can only tell you how I, in all honesty, fell into copywriting. Remember I told you starting a blog was the best decision I ever made? Well, that’s because it made me realise how much I love writing, specifically about fashion, so I kept doing it, which honed my skills. Then I won Grazia’s fashion Blogger of The Year 2102 (the first and last year they ran that competition, don’t blame me) which gave me a real confidence boost.

Work, work, work (work, work, work)

With my new found confidence I pestered (honestly) the guys at VICE magazine to let me intern there – I was living in Leeds at the time and I knew I had to get down to London. While interning I went to all the fashion parties I could, kept blogging, blagged a style column at SB:TV (again through pestering) and made as many contacts in the fashion media as I could (all while holding down a job at Forever 21 on Oxford Street, quite tiring).

Don’t be afraid to ask

Then I saw a job opening at Urban Outfitters for an assistant copywriter and I must confess I wan’t entirely sure what it meant but I read the job specification and it mentioned writing, and I loved the brand so I was quite set on the role. Luckily I remembered one of my blog readers worked there and I cheekily asked her to pass on my CV, which she did and I got the job (thanks Claire).

On that note – use your contacts but make sure that you help other people when you’re in a position to. Because karma. And general good morals.

My career history up until then didn’t really include any copywriting but I was passionate and Urban Outfitters loved my blog and could see that I was a competent writer.

I’ve since worked at other high street fashion brands, freelance, and I’ve just started work at another retailer.

Career progression

You can start as an assistant, then become a copywriter, then you could stay a copywriter forever! The titles around this are weird. Pay varies wildly too – I know people paid not so well and people paid eye-wateringly well. You could also become a content editor, head of content, head of copy, content strategist, a freelance consultant. The opportunities are endless! Especially in this day and age, content and branded content is literally everywhere and the best brands are investing heavily in it.

Top tips for becoming a good copywriter

  • Write a blog – it’s free and it’s kind of expected now
  • Hone your technical skills – revisit all those grammar lessons you learned in school
  • Proofread
  • Proofread again
  • One more time. This time print it off, paper reads better than a screen
  • Read
  • Read some more
  • Write creatively – write for fun, for no reason, whether it’s film reviews, poetry or short stories
  • learn supplementary skills such as: social media, photoshop, marketing and photography and design.
  • SEO matters but don’t compromise on style

What’s so good about copywriting

I keep saying that I love my job but I’ve just realised I haven’t really said why.

Well, for me, I get to write which is my one true skill. It’s very creative – I get to write lots of exciting things about exciting things. I’ve interviewed cool people, reviewed cool places, and of course written about a shit-tonne of clothes. Also I get to work in amazing head offices with great people. At Urban Outfitters I got to work in a studio with a never-ending parade of (sometimes half-naked) male models.

I love that thousands of people get to actually see my work. I also, and I’m told this type of narcissism is the mark of a true writer, get a real kick out of seeing things I’ve written in print. I enjoy the responsibility of being the guardian for a brand’s tone of voice. And, despite my complete lack of fashion design talent, I’m happy that I still ended up working in fashion!

So there you have it, you now know what I do… and hopefully have picked up some helpful tips if you want to do it too!

classpass london blog review

ClassPass London Review

In case you don’t already know, ClassPlass is a subscription fitness service – you pay one monthly fee and get to go to classes at hundreds of gyms and studios in London. It’s like Netflix for your health.

I was interested as I often book a hot yoga class or Frame class which can cost £15-£20 per class, so it adds up quickly. There are two plans with ClassPass:

£55 Where you can visit 5 classes in a month

£110 Where you can visit unlimited classes in a month

WHAT ARE THE PROS?

You can save a lot of money as the gyms you can use are super luxe and include Boomcycle, Triyoga, Frame and 1 Rebel amongst others – these classes are without a doubt much better than the ones included in your gym. I personally love 1 Rebel, it’s the most beautiful gym and a killer workout, but their classes usually cost £20! It’s nice to change up your routine, and you can use gyms at multiple locations. The booking system is super simple and the app is great. Doing different types of workouts is also proven to be better for weight loss, switching up your routine constantly ensures your body doesn’t get used to your workout.

teyana taylor kanye west

get a body like Teyana Taylor… maybe

WHAT ARE THE CONS?

It is expensive, the prices actually increased by around 25% earlier this year – but as I get older I’d rather sacrifice a new dress or night out for my health. Having said that, you can get gym memberships for as little as £20 these days. You do have to plan in advance, so just nipping into a gym on the fly won’t work. You can only visit the same gym three times in one monthly cycle.

OVERALL VERDICT

It’s definitely a great concept, I don’t know whether I’ll do it forever, but I do love trying new classes and the cost and fact you have to book makes me more likely to turn up (I like to get my moneys worth). The level of studios is really great too.

Why not use my code to get £20 off the £55 five class membership? That means it’s £35 for 5 classes – so you make your money back by going to just two classes. You can use it on the unlimited membership too.

What’s Hot? August Edition

What’s hot this month? Hopefully the weather because I want to go hunting for Squirtles… and do other things much more becoming of an adult woman.

POKEMON GO

I can honestly say, no game has captivated me like this since Theme Hospital (which I played for three straight days at my family’s Dell when I was 13). Pokemon Go has hit the headlines for doubling Nintendo’s value, being one of the most downloaded apps ever and for causing many an injury. After downloading it (not fully understanding it for a few weeks) and playing it, I can see why. I’m hooked, not in a ‘haha how ironic and post modern of me’ way, in a sincere and genuine ‘I love this fun game, can I play forever?’ way. My friends Hannah, Ben and I went on a hunt on Hampstead Heath and walked SEVENTEEN KILOMETRES. I’ll leave that thought with you…

PAPIER STATIONARY

I have something of a stationary fetish despite doing the majority of my work on a computer. There’s just something about beautiful notebooks and paper, and while we’re at it THE ART OF LETTER WRITING IS DYING! And that’s flipping tragic. Channel chic ladies like (I imagine) DVF, Anna Wintour and… Myleene Klass and send a beautiful handwritten note on personalised cards by Papier whose designs are so good and feature flamingos and pineapples heavily without being kitsch. Or if you probably won’t get around to sending anyone a note, ever, treat yo’self to a monogrammed notebook for all you best ideas (and shopping lists).

#GIRLBOSS RADIO

Founder of ecommerce site NastyGal and author of the modern girl’s guide to work GIRLBOSS (which was a New York Times best seller) Sophia Amourouso turns her hand to the Podcast game with this inspirational listen. Everyone and their dog has a Podcast these days, heck i’m thinking of doing one, but this one stands out from the crowd as Sophia interviews some seriously cool women including the founder of Classpass and CEO of NastyGal. Their career advice feels anything but preachy and really set a fire under my belly. A must-listen for any aspiring entrepreneurs or girl bosses out there.

You Need To Read… The Girls by Emma Cline

This book had a lot of hype from the get-go, and a reported $2M dollar book deal for the first-time author (crayyyyyyy), so my expectations were high. Luckily they were met and exceeded, I finished this book within 12 hours, I honestly could not put it down.

The novel is set in the ’60s on the distant fringes of Hollywood, the main character has a famous grandmother – and I believe the author was a child actress so perhaps that’s where he insight comes from. Our protagonist is a bored suburban teenager with an absent father and absent-minded mother, so when she one day sees a group of girls unlike any she’s come across before she is entranced and desperate to get to know them.

The girls in question actually belong to a cult, modelled on Charles Manson’s notorious ‘Family’ and you’ll recognise some of the minor stories as being taken directly from Manson and his followers.

The cult soon sucks our young lead in and sex and drugs soon follow – with disastrous effects in the end. I won’t give away too much because i do not want to ruin this incredible book for you but it’s like a cross between the films Almost Famous and Thirteen. Incidentally I do hope this gets made into a movie, preferably directed by Sofia Coppella. Reading this transported me to a hazy, bleached-out 60s summer in California so effectively that I was wearing my hair long and parted down the middle and wearing cheesecloth dresses by the next day. The language and imagery used is really sophisticated for such a young writer and i was so impressed.

Make this the next book on your summer reading list.

How to Make Your Own Raw Superfood Energy Balls

I love energy balls or raw food balls, whatever you wanna call them – they’re a tasty and healthy snack when you need a lil’ something. And they are far better for you than a Wispa (my usual go-to). The only drawback is that they’re incredibly expensive, so I thought I’d make my own! Here’s the recipe, it’s crazy simple and they’ll last about a week in the fridge.

INGREDIENTS

100g Frozen berries

50g Oats

100g Mix of Chia, raisins, any seeds, goji berries (use whatever you have in the cupboards)

1 tbsp Coconut oil

3 tbsp Honey or Maple Syrup

1 tbsp Protein powder

METHOD

I use frozen berries in smoothies all the time because they’re so much cheaper and last longer. Melt these down in a pan until coulis-like in texture. Add the oil and honey.

Mix all your dry ingredients well in a bowl. Then add to the wet mixture.

Mound into small balls, the texture should be sticky.

Leave to set in the fridge for a couple of hours and enjoy your healthy snack!

3 Micro Trends for Every Budget

Ph: Tommy Ton 2016

As someone who has always worked in fashion, and has run a style blog for over six years, seasonal wardrobe updates are something I’m very passionate about. However in the last year or so I’ve been really thinking about how I stock my wardrobe from a sustainable and ethical point of view – having hundreds of items of clothing just hanging in my closet doesn’t sit well with me anymore. So these days I stick to my tried and tested classics (little black dresses, jeans and blazers) and quality favourites and just make little tweaks to make my look oh-so-now. It’s also much better for your pocket so you can travel more (see my tips here), eat more (food inspo here) and generally be less skint! So here are three very pocket-friendly purchases for the new season…

P.S. I mean the British summer, so sorry, no bikinis here 😉

The Transformative Choker

PRICE RANGE: £3 – £6

This trend is everywhere, I think Gigi Hadid started it but celebrities from Kim Kardashian and Margot Robbie to the girls from Love Island (why oh why did you have to end?) are wearing chokers. I like a basic black one, and ASOS do a great one for £5 with free delivery. But I also enjoy a printed one or use a bandana as a neck tie for the same look at no cost.

Shop Chokers

choker streetstyle

The Layering Lifesaver

PRICE RANGE: £8 – £15

The British ‘summertime’ eh? Not always predictable and definitely not always warm, so come autumn we all end up with a wardrobe of summer dresses and camisoles we haven’t made the most of over the summer, right? If only there was a way to get a few months more wear out of them… Of course there is – it’s layering. And there’s nothing more on-trend to layer with than a white polo neck (as seen at JW Anderson and Celine). New Look do the perfect one at only £9.99 and it transforms a black slip dress; if you feel brave try a metallic or bright polo neck but whichever way you wear it… LAYER.

Shop Polo Necks

poloneck streetstyle

The Cult Skate Tee

PRICE RANGE: £28 – £45

To me Rihanna is kween of everything and she loves to rock a Thrasher tee, whether she’s ever picked up a copy of the iconic skate magazine, or indeed a skateboard, she looks great in hers. The recent shows provided muchos Thasher street style as well. wear yours with faded denim or a chic pencil skirt depending on your mood. One thing is for sure, a Thrasher t-shirt or sweater will earn you instant style points.

Shop Thrasher Tees

So there we have it, three thrifty and stylish wardrobe updates. What are your must-have micro trends?

The Most Hilarious Podcasts For Your Commute

Is it a sign of old age, or a sign of the times that instead of the latest Boiler Room mix I’m now more likely to be found listening to a Podcast on my commute? There’s a line in my favourite TV show Eastbound and Down where the notoriously juvenile star Kenny Powers says ‘I’m a grown up, I listen to This American  Life’. And there is something quite mature about listening to certain Podcasts, you feel like you have your sh*t together. Of course some are just hilariously funny. So without further ado here are six of the best.

Ronna & Beverly

Try not to laugh at this biweekly Podcast and you will fail miserably. It’s a weird concept – two fifty-something Jewish mothers, Ronna & Beverly, generally bitch, dole out advice and burp alongside celebrity guests. They’re like the know-it-all aunts at every wedding; Ronna the sophisticated one and Beverly the kooky one. I can highly recommend this, it’s just hilarious.

My Dad Wrote a Porno

This show should come with a warning because I can’t count the times I’ve LOLed out loud in the tube/train/checkout line while listening to this. The premise is simple, and disturbing, narrator Jamie’s dad literally wrote a porno. A porno called Belinda Blinked which may be one of the worst examples of writing this century but of course provides many, many laughs. Along with his friends including the delightful Alice Levine, Janie reads a chapter of his dad’s erotic literature each week. The second series has just started so be sure to catch up on series one and thank me later.
