H&M Home Haul

For years I’ve heard my friends and fellow bloggers rave about H&M’s amazing homewares range but never bothered to check it out until recently, because I shop online and H&M are notoriously bad at online shopping – everything takes about 4 weeks to arrive. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Now I’ve moved SOUTH OF THE MF RIVER (can you believe it) to Brixton, I’m taking advantage of the, frankly great, high street. The jewel in the crown of which is H&M and it’s shiny new homewares section. I’ve just moved house so needed a few things to spruce up my room and I was pleasantly surprised by how cheap the stuff is. I got a few great cushions, some jewel-toned glassware and a cute pineapple candle. Is the pineapple trend over yet? I refuse to let go of it without a fight. Shop H&M home

What is a Copywriter? And How To Be a Good One

I recently started a new job and I was talking to my mum about how happy I am to have found a career I’m good at and more importantly, that I love. Then we got to talking about what I wanted to do at school – it varied weekly (whale watcher, doctor, lawyer, Jennifer Lopez) – and how I didn’t even know my chosen career path existed back then!  All throughout my childhood and teenage years I was drawn to fashion, I loved cutting images out of Vogue, drawing clothes, creating my own magazines and learning designer’s name off by heart. I was under the illusion that the only ‘fashion career’ was to design clothes – which I wasn’t convinced I could do. My mother was even less convinced, I remember her dissuading me from studying fashion design at university so I studied classics instead. Nowadays it is a bit easier – the internet happened – information is boundless and very easily accessible. Here is where I admit that I’m as old as the hills …

You Need To Read… The Girls by Emma Cline

This book had a lot of hype from the get-go, and a reported $2M dollar book deal for the first-time author (crayyyyyyy), so my expectations were high. Luckily they were met and exceeded, I finished this book within 12 hours, I honestly could not put it down.  The novel is set in the ’60s on the distant fringes of Hollywood, the main character has a famous grandmother – and I believe the author was a child actress so perhaps that’s where he insight comes from. Our protagonist is a bored suburban teenager with an absent father and absent-minded mother, so when she one day sees a group of girls unlike any she’s come across before she is entranced and desperate to get to know them. The girls in question actually belong to a cult, modelled on Charles Manson’s notorious ‘Family’ and you’ll recognise some of the minor stories as being taken directly from Manson and his followers. The cult soon sucks our young lead in and sex and drugs soon follow – with disastrous effects …

6 Of The Best Luxury Candles

‘You’re literally burning your cash’ a friend once said to me over my penchant for posh candles, but I can’t slash won’t stop buying them. In the big scheme of things they’re a relatively inexpensive treat, hell I can drop £30 in Nando’s no problem, so a nice luxe candle is way better for my waistline and they do last. I hate cheap scented candles because they just smell rank – they do! A decent scented candle can emit a luscious fragrance even when not lit and when you do spark up it only takes a minute (girl) to fill your entire room with a delicious scent. Also in my defence I do use the empty pots when they’re burnt out for storing makeup and trinkets so really they’re quite a good investment. And everyone needs a little luxury in their lives, a well-placed Diptyque candle can elevate your room decor tenfold, it’s just classy bbz.  Byredo candle | Diptyque Mimosa candle| Bella Freud Loving Candle  Le Labo Candle | Lola James Harper Candle | …

The Palomar, Soho

After months of trying to get a booking for this unassuming Soho eatery I finally managed to get in for an early evening supper and I’m already planning my next visit. The Palomar is sister to the uber cool Machneyuda restaurant in Jerusalem. Like Machneyuda, The Palomar’s delectable menu features dishes from Southern Spain, North Africa and the Levant – but with a twist. As usual I took my trusty iPhone along to document my meal…
