3 Micro Trends for Every Budget

Ph: Tommy Ton 2016

As someone who has always worked in fashion, and has run a style blog for over six years, seasonal wardrobe updates are something I’m very passionate about. However in the last year or so I’ve been really thinking about how I stock my wardrobe from a sustainable and ethical point of view – having hundreds of items of clothing just hanging in my closet doesn’t sit well with me anymore. So these days I stick to my tried and tested classics (little black dresses, jeans and blazers) and quality favourites and just make little tweaks to make my look oh-so-now. It’s also much better for your pocket so you can travel more (see my tips here), eat more (food inspo here) and generally be less skint! So here are three very pocket-friendly purchases for the new season…

P.S. I mean the British summer, so sorry, no bikinis here 😉

The Transformative Choker

PRICE RANGE: £3 – £6

This trend is everywhere, I think Gigi Hadid started it but celebrities from Kim Kardashian and Margot Robbie to the girls from Love Island (why oh why did you have to end?) are wearing chokers. I like a basic black one, and ASOS do a great one for £5 with free delivery. But I also enjoy a printed one or use a bandana as a neck tie for the same look at no cost.

The Layering Lifesaver

PRICE RANGE: £8 – £15

The British ‘summertime’ eh? Not always predictable and definitely not always warm, so come autumn we all end up with a wardrobe of summer dresses and camisoles we haven’t made the most of over the summer, right? If only there was a way to get a few months more wear out of them… Of course there is – it’s layering. And there’s nothing more on-trend to layer with than a white polo neck (as seen at JW Anderson and Celine). New Look do the perfect one at only £9.99 and it transforms a black slip dress; if you feel brave try a metallic or bright polo neck but whichever way you wear it… LAYER.

The Cult Skate Tee

PRICE RANGE: £28 – £45

To me Rihanna is kween of everything and she loves to rock a Thrasher tee, whether she’s ever picked up a copy of the iconic skate magazine, or indeed a skateboard, she looks great in hers. The recent shows provided muchos Thasher street style as well. wear yours with faded denim or a chic pencil skirt depending on your mood. One thing is for sure, a Thrasher t-shirt or sweater will earn you instant style points.
